Background
Scrolling through one of my favorite websites for discovering new music, AOTY, I discovered a few albums that were flying under the radar due both the lack of artist notoriety and the recent release of Playboi Carti’s long awaited album I AM MUSIC (album is trash, don’t listen). I soon discovered Courting, a band whose new album is quite short and sweet, again the exact opposite of I AM MUSIC. I’ll highlight a couple of songs I really enjoyed from them before recommending an album for first-time listeners.
Outstanding Tracks
After You
Very good introduction to Courting, in the sense that it does nothing special but hits all the bases for what the band looks like.
Namcy
Off the same album as After You but slightly less popular, very interesting track in terms of lyrics (this is a theme among Courting). For example: “Somewhere colder, like the M.N.C.D.A 205.10”. Nonsensical unless you get the reference?
Lust for Life
This is the name (part of the name) of Courting’s latest album, demonstrating the mindset of where they are at right now as a band (enjoying life, I assume). The full name of the album is Lust for Life, Or: ‘How To Thread The Needle And Come Out The Other Side To Tell The Story’. Not sure what this means.
Album Review: Lust for Life, Or: ‘How To Thread The Needle And Come Out The Other Side To Tell The Story’
First off: what a title. Truly one of the titles of all time. Second, just a good album, nothing crazy but an easy listen with some highs but also some lows. I highly recommend listening to the tracks listed above + the last 2 tracks on the album, as they really close out well. The middle is up and down for sure, but overall really interesting as a section. The whole project is super inconsistent but the highs are worth listening for. Solid 6.8/10 for this project.
Thanks for reading, more to come soon - let me know whether you enjoy the shorter content, hopefully this way I can push out more reviews to spotlight more artists.
